AN UNFORGETTABLE AFRICAN ADVENTURE IN COMPLETE PRIVACY…
In the Xitsonga language, the word “Makumu” refers to an intangible explanation of an open space, an uncluttered lookout over distant horizons, or an endless view. The breath-taking views and location of the lodge complement a deeply inspiring sense of space and place, leaving visitors rejuvenated with the ancient spirit of African wilderness.
The ‘Big Five’ Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is one of the largest privately owned nature reserves in South Africa, covering some 60 000 hectares and forming part of the greater Kruger National Park near the town of Hoedspruit.
Makumu Private Game Lodge is an intimate oasis in this vast wilderness, surrounded by the harshness, unpredictability and unspoiled appeal of the African bushveld. Six luxurious and beautifully appointed suites, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests, ensure an exclusive blend of absolute comfort, style and privacy.
To keep the authentic, back-to-nature experience, all lighting is done using candles and lanterns. We do have international plug points and fans in each suite.
We experience hot, humid summers and mild winters (cold in evenings).
The water at Makumu comes from our own resources (borehole) and goes through a Reverse Osmosis system therefore making all the water out our taps perfectly safe to drink.
We are in a Malaria infected area, however it is a low risk malaria area. We have the camp sprayed for mosquitoes regularly and supply our guests with mosquito repellent in each suite and around the lodge.
We, unfortunately, do not have standard disability access.
All ages welcome when booking exclusive use of the Lodge. FIT bookings: children aged 8+ years welcome (full adult rate applies).
